Meet the Mormons has been slated to open in the Richmond area along with other areas of the country on Friday, October 10th at Westchester Commons Stadium 16, 361 Perimeter Drive, Midlothian VA 23114 (Midlothian Turnpike at 288). Thanks to our many members who went online and requested this to make it happen!
You may hear soon about the movie, "Meet the Mormons" which will be premiering on October 10th in selected theaters. Richmond is not on the list yet. However the Church is providing information on how to increase the likelihood of the movie being shown here.
The movie was produced by the Church and has been approved by the First Presidency. Any profit made from the movie will be donated to the Red Cross. Missionaries will not be at the theatres nor will they be using it as a proselyting tool.
The movie looks at the lives of several LDS families around the world. It is not a movie full of doctrine and teachings but more reflective of the LDS lifestyle and what is important to us. It is not "preachy". It is a movie that provides insight into a variety of LDS families, their backgrounds and values. It is more of a documentary on the featured LDS families.
The Church is aware that going to the theatre can be expensive and does not expect members to attend if it is not in their budget. The movie will come out later in visitor centers and other Church venues so it will be available to all members at some point.
The Church did several focus groups with non-members about the movie and a high percentage of the viewers think the movie is positive, provides more insight about the Church and would recommend it to non-member friends. Of course it helped the non-members with their misconceptions about the Church. What the Church would like us to do is go to meetthemormons.com<http://meetthemormons.com> and watch the trailer and submit a request online that the movie be shown locally. Hey ladies, our ward's quarterly Relief Society Meeting is just a few weeks away. The Wednesday after General Conference we are gathering to make a Christmas tree craft. We really want you to be able to make something that you will like, so there are quite a few options. Great for individual creativity, a little tricky to explain.
Before getting into the what's and how's, here is a video about why. Elder Uchtdorf explains that creating is part of who we are in his talk "Happiness, Your Heritage".
Now for the fun stuff, what you can make!
Advent Calendar:
A count down for the 25 days until Christmas. (If you prefer 24, don't put in the top nail.) This craft will require hammering, so if you have one please bring a hammer. Nails and tags are provided. Tags are blank on the back for you to put on scriptures, numbers, etc.

Decorated Tree:
If the advent calendar sounds too busy, just decorate your tree. We've got lots of things to make your tree beautiful.

Chalkboard Tree:
Want to write messages on your tree? Use chalkboard paint. For the best coverage, use a roller brush.

Clothesline Frame:
This is a fun way to hang Christmas photos, a few Christmas cards, or mini ornaments. For this craft you will get hemp and 10 mini clothespins. It does require some hammering, so please bring a hammer.

Decorated Frame:
If you'd rather have the frame without the clothesline, that is fine. Leave the tree cutout blank, or fill with wrapping paper, chalkboard, an enlarged photo, etc. Sorry, we aren't providing materials big enough to fill the hole, but you are welcome to bring stuff and glue/nail it on at the activity. The frame is 2 feet tall and 16 inches wide.
It is that time of year again where we have a combined activity with all the Relief Society and Young Women in our ward! We will be making fruit and candy pizzas (sugar cookie base) while getting to know the other ladies at your table. But there is a catch. For your table to earn decorating ingredients, you'll have to answer questions about Relief Society or Young Womens. *Nursery is provided*
BYU TV (Brigham Young University Television) is more than just a way for the LDS Church to broadcast General Conference. It it a whole channel dedicated to airing good material. In the past this material was a bit limited: devotionals, conference talks, classical musical performances and BYU sports. Great for a spiritual lift, not so good for entertaining. But have you checked out BYU TV recently? There is a broad selection of entertaining and clean shows to choose from, along with the more spiritual stuff.

Studio C: A series of comical sketches. Granite Flats: A drama about the people in a small town called Granite Flats, set in the 1960s. American Ride: History taught by a guy who rides a motorcycle to the historical sights. Story Trek: Finding people randomly and asking about their life story. How to Watch
If your TV provider has BYU TV (sometimes through PBS or a local channel) you can watch it straight on the TV. Otherwise, go to byutv.org. You can stream live TV from the homepage, or go to "Shows" and pick the show and episode you would like to watch. Some shows can also be found on youtube.com.
A new evening ARP SMART Meeting (Sisters Making the Atonement Real Together) will begin Thursday, May 8 from 7:00 to 8:30pm. It will be held at the Monument Building, 5600 Monument Avenue, in the classroom by the Primary Room.
Regular day meetings will continue to be held Wednesdays, from noon to 1:30pm at the Stake Center, 2500 Pump Road, High Council Room, Nursery provided.
SMART Meetings are to help people overcome anxiety, fear, anger, depression, perfectionism, codependency, overeating, overspending or any other self defeating behavior by applying the gospel principles found in the 12 Step LDS Family Services Addiction Recovery Program.

This Saturday, March 29, is the LDS General Women's Meeting. It will be the largest gathering to date because instead of being just for Relief Society sisters, it is for all females eight years old and up. We will hear inspiring messages from presidency members of Relief Society, Young Women, and Primary, along with a member of the First Presidency.
There are a couple different ways to view this meeting. The preferred method is to gather together with other women at our Stake Center at 2500 Pump Road. Refreshments will be served beginning at 6:30pm. The broadcast begins at 8pm.
If you cannot make it to the Stake Center, it will be online at lds.org, mormon.org, or byuTV.
There is a lot going on for Valentine's Day. Hope you all find a way to enjoy this fun holiday!
