"Fires of Faith - The Coming Forth of the King James Bible" a series of films which celebrate the 400th anniversary of one of the most enduring pieces of writing in the history of humanity. These stories, along with a modern, scholarly perspective of the 16th century book are presented to us by BYUtv.

Marriage Class Information

A new round of the Strengthening Marriage class will be starting up in two weeks (Feb 12).  The course is set up to accommodate up to 10 couples and is currently about half full.  The class will be held each week during Sunday School in the Relief Society Room and will take approximately 12 weeks to complete.

This is a relatively new curriculum put together by the church and is set up specifically for married couples. Our stake presidency is encouraging all married couples in the stake to take this class eventually.   The course addresses such topics as communication, unity & equality, resolving conflict and enriching marriage.    If you are interested in participating in this round, please talk to Jerry or Christy Fiala (fialac@aol.com) or see a member of the bishopric.

Community service opportunity

The Stake is presenting a community service opportunity if anyone or group is interested in making a gift basket for the Widow's Mite to sell the end of February.  Baskets can be any size, any theme.  Some ideas, an Italian basket could contain speciality pastas, sauces, spices, cheese; a scrapbooking basket - fancy scissors, fancy papers, stickers, etc; a letter-writing basket - pens, note cards, envelopes, stationary, etc; you get the idea.  Please let the RS Presidency know if you are interested.

Congratulations to Brian and Ashley Landreth on the birth of their son Nixon Eli, born 1/22 weighing 8lbs & 5oz and 21 inches long.

RS announcements 1/16/12

The Temple reopens this week and there will be a trip on Wednesday January 18th.  See Faye Mullins if you are interested.

Also on January 21 a Tri-Stake Single Adult Winter Activity - for those 31 and older with your families/children.  The food will be provided   Come enjoy volleyball and lots board games!

Congratulations to Shelby Newton on the birth of her daughter Aaleyah Starr Mason born January 15.  She weighed 7lbs 3oz.

Spring Term Institute beginning this week at 7:00 pm & Wednesdays at 7:00  Both classes will be at the Institute Building, 300 Grace Street(upstairs at the Richmond Branch Building).  Mondays at noon will be taught at the MCV Dental Building and Thursdays at 7:00 pm at the Farmville Chapel.  These are especially for those ages 18-30.  But don't miss out on Adult Education(Institute) taught by Sister Erlynn Lansing at the Stake Center on Wednesdays at 10:00 am.

January 22 at 8:00 pm at the Stake Center there will be a Seminary Centennial Broadcast celebrating 100 years of Seminary.   Did you know you can follow the broadcast & other Seminary news on Twitter by using the #ldsseminary hashtag.

Ward Conference RS Lesson

What a great lesson the Stake RS Presidency taught yesterday on the importance of our visiting with one another.  We may be more to our sisters than we know.

Richmond Tri-Stake Single Adults Winter Activity

All Single Adults ages 31 & older, & their families/children.  

January 21 at 6:00 pm at the Monument Ave building come to play volleyball and board games. The salad & pizza will be provided.

Institute classes for 2012

 Spring Term 2012 Institute begins this week – Tuesdays at 7:00pm “The Four Gospels”, Wednesdays at 7:00pm “Teachings of the Living Prophets”.  These two classes are located at the Institute Building, 300 West Grace Street (upstairs at the Richmond Branch Building).  Mondays 12:00 noon– “The Book of Mormon” is taught at MCV Dental Building.  Thursday 7:00pm – “The Old Testament” at the Colonial Heights Chapel.  Wednesday 7:00pm – “The Old Testament” at the Farmville Chapel. 

 President Monson has urged all young people, ages 18-30, single or married, to attend Institute.  Come feast on the scriptures and friendship.

Congratulations

Congratulations to two families this week both welcoming little girls.  Devin & Shannon welcome Mattingly Jo born January 4th at 7lbs 9oz & 20 1/2 inches long.  Brad & Lara McAllister welcome their new little girl Micaela born January 6th, weighing 7lbs 9oz & 20 inches long.

CES (Seminary and Institutes) live broadcast

WAFFLES on SUNDAY!  All 18-30 year olds, single or married!  Come have Waffles tonight, January 8, at theMonument Chapel at 7:00pm.  It’s the Church Educational System live broadcast tonight, featuring speaker, Elder Jay E. Jensen, of the Presidency of the 70. The Broadcast is 8:00pm, but we are gathering at 7:00pm for Waffles with toppings (strawberries, chocolate, nutella, whipped cream…and more).  Come enjoy friendship, food, and spiritual food!

Stake Women's Basketball

The Stake has organized a women's basketball league with games over the next few months.  All games will be Friday night in the 7:30 slot at the stake center.  Our ward will be teamed with the Scotchtown ward and we are scheduled to play 4 games in the season. Washington DC Temple Maintenance

Please note that the Washington DC Temple will be closed for winter maintenance Monday, January 2nd through Monday, January 16th, 2012. The Temple will be back to the normal operating schedule on Tuesday, January 17th.
