YSA Center Kickoff Activity

We are excited that we now have a full-time missionary couple (Elder and Sister Chuntz) serving the YSAs in the Richmond area.  As part of their service they will be staffing the YSA Center which will operate down in the Grace Street building (Richmond Branch).

There will be a kickoff activity: pizza and movie (Ephraim's Rescue) on Thursday December 5 at 7:30pm for all YSAs who wish to come.

YSA Center Purpose:

1)      To meet the needs of our YSA members with support:

a.       Social: a safe place to hang-out and enjoy the companionship of other youth, as well as leaders, particularly from the influence of a strong couple, such as we are blessed to have with Elder and Sister Chuntz.

b.      Spiritual: provide a safe refuge with Gospel resources and adults leaders available

c.       Classes (TBD based on need):

i.      Pre-missionary classes

ii.      Daytime Institute

1.       BOM class

2.       Other

d.      Family History

e.      Reactivation Support (TBD, but young elders and sisters, YSA Senior missionaries, Chippenham members and home bishops/branch presidents would all be involved)

2)      To Proclaim the Gospel

a.      Have a place

  i.      for missionaries to teach investigators, with media support

  ii.      where members can fellowship their non-member friends

Tri-Stake Single Adult Sacrament Meeting

These sacrament meetings are held on the second Sunday of each month at 6pm in the Monument building (5600 Monument Ave). The next one is on Novemember 10th. The service will be followed by a “Linger Longer” and participants are encouraged to bring some “Snacks to Share” during this activity. This does not replace sacrament meeting, but provides singles with new opportunity to participate in sacrament services and to fellowship with other singles in a comfortable environment.

Emergency Preparedness Fair and Blood Drive

Saturday, Oct. 12th, 10a.m.-3:30p.m.

The stake is teaming up with the American Red Cross, County Fire, and State Police for this event. There will be displays on food storage, non-toxic water purification, water storage, 72 hr. kits, first aid, cooking without fire and electricity...etc.  at the Stake Center on Pump Rd.

Feel free to bring your kids. There will be balloons, face painting and cookies. Come climb in emergency vehicles and meet the men who drive them.

We are grateful that Comcast has been providing General Conference to our area for many years. However this upcoming and future General Conferences will not be available on Comcast. The Glen Allen Ruritan Club in association with Henrico Recreation and Parks will host Glen Allen Day, one of Henrico County’s largest outdoor festivals!  The festivities kick off with a parade at 9:30am on Mountain Road.  This year’s theme is “Ballooning with Excitement.”  Activities in the park include children’s activities; participation by several local schools, balloons by Miss Sheri the Clown, petting zoo, airbrush designs, Henrico County Public Library Mobile Library Services; an arts, crafts and business fair; custom and classic car show; and local musicians on two stages.

Ward Service Auction

Members of the ward offer services that will be auctioned. If you haven't yet contacted Brother Anderson, and want to offer a service please contact him soon. The night of, attendees will be given a questionnaire. Based on their answers, they will receive points to "bid" on items during the auction. Each attendee will have 10 points just for showing up. The questionnaire may contain questions like the ones below:

• Did you say your prayers each night since August 18? 10 pts

Professional Career & Employment Workshop

This workshop is for anyone seeking a professional job, looking to enter or take the next step in a professional career, or considering a change in their professional career. The workshop will be taught by the full-time staff from the Washington, D.C. office of LDS Employment Resource Services and will run from 7-10pm on Friday and 9:00am - 4:00pm on Saturday. Participants should commit to attend both the Friday and Saturday sessions.

Come enjoy an evening of crafts, good food, and great company! We will be making fabric flowers that can be attached to flip flops, hair pieces, clothing and more. Don't forget to stop by the food class to assemble a tasty treat! The treats are healthy arrangements that kids should enjoy.

Even if you do not like crafts, or food, (what is not to like about food?) please come and bring your teenage daughters. It is a great opportunity to mingle with the other women in Relief Society and Young Women.

Temple Maintenance

To keep the Washington DC Temple looking its best, it closes once a year for routine summer maintenance. The temple is closed now and will re-open on Tuesday, July 23rd. 

Car Seats and Strollers

Dear Sisters, 

    I have family coming in the week of July 12-22nd and am in need of a couple of items for the younger family members. Some sisters have so graciously offered items, for which I am so grateful! I am, however, still in need  of 2 more car seats and 2 strollers (or if you have a double stroller, that would work great!) Also- if anyone has a cooler we could borrow as well, I would be so appreciative!! I'd even be willing to bake you a batch of brownies or cookies for whatever sweets your family desires!

Stake Temple Day

Our Stake Temple Day is on Saturday, May 25th. We would like to invite all members to plan now to join us that day at the Temple. While there will not be an organized meeting this time, this is still a special day set aside for our stake to visit the Temple together. Many wards and branches may be designating certain times to attend endowment sessions together, as well as arranging for car pooling, etc. Please check with your ward leadership on their plans for that day. As this day is fast approaching, please ensure that your recommend is current or meet with a member of your Bishopric/Branch Presidency to work on obtaining a current recommend.

Growing a Glowing Skin

This class will teach you how to more effectively cleanse you face, the differences between pharmaceutical and store bought products as well as the benefits of exfoliates and moisturizers. For centuries women have gathered around quilts to create something uniquely beautiful and necessary for survival. This class will teach the skill of setting up quilts on frames and then tying the quilts. A handmade quilt is a heartfelt gift and a loving act of service for someone. Come and learn the wonderful skill of quilt tying.

Knitted Baby Cap Patterns

The stake has been getting a lot of requests for the baby cap patterns used in the September Humanitarian Day of Service. If you are interested, you can get started on the batch of hats we are going to donate this upcoming September.

Please find sites for hats. If knit in the round, I go to double point needles when it gets hard to decrease. I use the shortest circular needles I can find meaning the space between both points are short.  Look over all to get an idea of what you want to do.  If you all want to make lots of hats then the directions I wrote and the YouTube below it is the best to do.

Baby Cap Knitted

Material: Soft Worsted Yarn or Baby Yarn
Knitting Needles: Size 8 or 11

Cast on 42 stitches loosely.

Rows 1 through 7: Knit across (Garter Stitch)

Then, beginning with a knit row, work in stockinet stitch until piece measures approximately 4 1/2 inches from cast on edge, ending with a purl row.

Shaping:
    Row 1: (K3, K2, tog.) across
    Row 2  and all wrong side rows: purl across
    Row 3: (K2, K2 tog.) across
    Row 5: (K1, K2 tog.) across
    Row 7: (K2 tog.) across
    Row 9: (K2 tog. across, cut yarn leaving a long end for sewing.

Slip needle with long end through remaining stitches, gather tightly and secure weave seam.

If the cap is too small use thicker yarn or cast on more stitches. Do the opposite if cap is too large.

A 12-Step Program will be offered by the Richmond Virginia Stake designed exclusively for women. Beginning Wednesday, March 27, the 12-Step Program meetings will be held from 12:00 to 1:30 p.m. in the Stake Center’s High Council Room. The group facilitator will be Sandy Willis.

Scouts Brunswick Stew Sale

Scouts from the Mechanicsville ward are doing a Brunswick stew sale. The stew will be made on the 16th. Quarts are $7 each. Emily Richardson can deliver your order to the church if that is more convenient. Please have cash or a check made out to BSA Troop 569.
